Violoncello: own model, made in 2021

The original inspiration for this model came from Goffriller. This recognisable in the width of the lower and upper bouts. The f-holes are designed to match the width of the C-bout and the lower bouts. The arching and graduation ensure the characteristics of the sound of my instruments. The scroll is my own design from 2019.

I built this violoncello in 2021. For the top I chose a well seasoned, 30 year old European spruce acquired from a retired violinmaker. The tap tone of the wood was open and clear. The first 100 years the growth must have been very slow as they resulted in only 6 cm. The total number of year rings in the original cut was 280 years. This means that the tree saw life around 1700! The back, ribs and scroll are made of more recent maple from the Carpatian Mountains.
